Battle Of Sportscaster Brewing In New York

New York, NY -- Beer, burps and baseball banter will be blown through the mouths of some wannabee sportscaster at an event in New York later today (Jul. 7).

Judges, including Samuel Adams beer creator Jim Koch, will decide today which baseball fan will earn the right to conduct color commentary for an inning in a game between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox later this month.

Koch says many of the participants have "a couple of pints" to loosen up before they display their baseball commentary skills or lack thereof.

He doesn't find this surprising, noting that many of the sportscasters of the past would suck on "grandpa's old cough medicine" regularly before and during games.

Koch says he won't be a tough judge and has "a soft spot for underdogs." He says knowledge and passion are things he will look for as a judge.

Similar competitions will be hosted in Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, and San Diego later in the baseball season.
