Stan Ridgway Reclimbs Wall Of Voodoo

Los Angeles, CA -- It's been 20 years since Stan Ridgway sang "Mexican Radio" with Wall Of Voodoo but he's scaling that wall again with his next CD.

Ridgway will release "Snakebite: Blacktop Ballads And Fugitive Songs" on August 20 and one of the tunes is a tribute to his old band titled -- what else? -- "Talkin' Wall Of Voodoo Blues, Part 1."

It may sound like Ridgway is combing through his past but he didn't set out to deliberately write a song about his old band.

In his words, "I had just purchased a slide guitar and was trying to write some gut-bucket blues along the lines, 'There's a river full of whisky and I'm a duck about to dive.'"

That didn't work for Ridgway so he started writing the lines, "I don't want MTV/ I don't want no VH-1," and he quickly realized he was writing "a cautionary tale" that he calls a musical version of "VH-1: Behind The Music."
