Los Angeles, CA -- A Los Angeles man who collected one million pennies is having a hard time getting a bank to exchange them for bills without taking a cut. Coinstar, the company that places kiosks in supermarkets for folks to turn their loose coins into cash, has extended an offer to Mr. Ron England to cash in the 3.6 tons of copper which took him 30 years to collect. England's biggest gripe was that everyone who offered to help wanted to nickel and dime him with a service charge, and unfortunately, Coinstar spokesman George White says they're not in a position to waive the seven percent fee because "the cost of processing coin is so enormous." This is not the first time Coinstar has dealt with a penny-pincher. In 2001, White says the company bailed out Alaska resident Sylvester Neal, who had a then-record-breaking collection of 792,141 pennies, but had to sell most of them because he was moving to Seattle. Now, White says they are just waiting to see if Mr. England will accept their offer.
