Let's Hear It For Pat Benatar

Maui, HI -- Let's hear it for Pat Benatar: She's helping her fans make sure their hearing is A-OK.

The rock goddess is the spokeswoman for a new hearing loss campaign by Energizer batteries and the non-profit group Hearing Education and Awareness for Rockers (HEAR).

Unlike some musicians, Benatar has little hearing damage from her years as an arena queen -- mostly because she's been using in-ear sound monitors which protect her hearing during concerts.

In the early days, she admits, "I blasted myself to the moon" at shows -- but those weren't the loudest concerts she ever experienced.

The biggest sound assault on Benatar's ears came when she took one of her daughters to an 'N Sync concert a few years ago.

In her words, "I was like, 'Mother of God!' It was so loud I thought I was gonna cry."

She doesn't place the blame on the singers, though. Explains Benatar, "There's nothing more deafening than adolescent females screaming at this incredible pitch that they do."
