Yonkers, NY -- You'd be surprised at the pet peeves of hotel guests.

"Consumer Reports" recently surveyed travelers about the best and worst hotel chains, and their research revealed that a room with ugly furnishings can cause a lot of grief for guests.

Twenty percent of the people surveyed say "unattractive decor" is the biggest complaint they'd have about a hotel room. In particular, the Days Inn, Econo Lodge, Howard Johnson, Ramada and Travelodge chains are singled out for ticky-tacky interior design.

Poor room lighting is a gripe of 18 percent of the "Consumer Reports" readers, and is a problem at Days Inn, Econo Lodge, Howard Johnson and Travelodge.

But the biggest pet peeve on the list is a hotel which charges up the yin-yang for phone calls. Forty-five percent of travelers complain about that, pointing the finger at Hyatt, Sheraton and Westin hotels.
