Minneapolis, MN -- Planning your summer vacation? Well, plan to pay less because the cost of getting away has gone down. According to the American Automobile Association, lodging and meal prices have dropped since last year -- enough to compensate for higher gas prices. This year, a family of four will spend an average of $125 a night on lodging -- down six percent from last summer -- and $110 on meals, a two percent drop. If you want to cut costs, Kansas is your cheapest destination -- the average combined cost for food and lodging is $169 a day. Meanwhile, big spenders may prefer Hawaii, where it costs a whopping $497 per day to vacation there. But even that's a bargain compared to the summer of 2003, when it averaged $36 more.
