Yoga + Flamenco = 'Yomenco'

Spring Valley, NY -- A yoga teacher in New York is stretching the exercise into new directions by combining it with flamenco.

For the last four months, Bruce Van Horn has been working hard to mix yoga and flamenco music into a new form of fitness called "Yomenco."

The exercise mixes yoga positions and breathing exercises with castanets and egg shakers to create a blend that Van Horn believes is "sexy and fun."

But the inspiration didn't come easy. Van Horn teaches yoga at various nursing homes but had to create "yomenco" out of desperation because, in his words, "yoga wasn't exciting enough for the senior citizens."

Combining yoga and flamenco may seem like a stretch but Van Horn says the two activities both started in ancient India and "are designed to elicit emotions of the collective unconscious."
