A Taste Of Old Time England

London, England -- Diners have a chance of getting a taste of old time England during the days of World War II.

Starting in June, two London restaurants, the Orangery at Kensington Palace and the New Armouries restaurant at HM Tower of London, will feature a lunch and afternoon tea menu with 1940s recipes.

Chefs developed the menu to honor the 60th anniversary of D-Day and will serve wartime fare which uses limited amounts of ingredients, just as it was during the days of food rationing.

The lunch menu includes lettuce, parsley and potato soup; chicken salad with broad beans, a treacle tart and a glass of rhubarb wine.

Meanwhile, the tea menu includes a cucumber and watercress sandwich, rock cake and plum jam; carrot cake; and another glass of rhubarb wine.

Organizers say the menu is designed to appeal to "visitors' sense of nostalgia as well as the modern palate."
