Cindy Williams Doing It Her Way With Drama

Los Angeles, CA -- Actress Cindy Williams -- best known as Shirley on "Laverne & Shirley" -- is still "doing it her way."

But, this time, she's doing it her way on "Law & Order: SVU."

Williams will be guest-starring on the crime show as a distraught grandmother who believes her granddaughter has been victimized by a wealthy child molester.

It's a vastly different role for Williams, who usually plays comic parts, but as she says, "I wanted to stretch myself."

To motivate herself for the role, Williams says she didn't rip her emotions from the headlines like the show's writers do. Instead, she says she "reached into the dark part of myself and played it from there."

Williams' "SVU" episode will air Tuesday (Mar. 23) but she hasn't given up comedy. She says she's been reading for a lot of sitcom roles this pilot season.
