School Of Rock Searching For Up-And-Coming Bands

Hollywood, CA -- VH1 is holding an "American Idol-"style search for a hot new teen band.

The network, along with the American Music Conference, has launched the VH1/School of Rock Battle of the Bands Contest for students aged 13-19.

The budding rockers will record their own original song and submit it for a chance to have it turned into a music video which will air on VH1.

Jack Black's movie "School of Rock" was an inspiration for the contest. In the film, he poses as a fourth grade teacher and turns his class into a band to win a "battle of the bands" competition.

The goal of the contest is to send a message to students and schools that music is a key component in a well-rounded education.

Teens can apply at themusicedge.com until March 31.
