Ex-Supreme Fears 'American Idol' Is Destroying Singers

Los Angeles, CA -- "American Idol" could be destroying the careers of talented singers before they have the chance to succeed.

That's the opinion of a supreme authority -- ex-Supremes member Mary Wilson, who went through an "American Idol"-like training program while at Motown.

She credits her training with helping her become a top entertainer but doesn't think that shows like "American Idol" should force the singers to learn their craft "on TV, in front of millions of people."

Wilson believes that young entertainers need a place to learn their craft but warns execs, "Don't put them on TV to be trained. They should already be trained first."

Wilson is currently promoting a new anthology, "Diana Ross & The Supremes: The No. 1s," and she is working on a solo album with former Supremes songwriters Brian and Eddie Holland.
