Super Bowl Match Up A Real Battle Of The Beans

Yorktown, VA -- The Super Bowl match-up between the New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers could be a real gas for bean fanatics.

That's according to bean cookbook author Suzanne White, who says both Carolina and New England are as well known for their bean dishes as for quality football.

White says Boston isn't called "Beantown" for nothing and says locals there love navy beans that have been stewed for hours in pork fat and molasses.

Meanwhile, Carolina residents pant for black-eyed peas spiced with bell peppers, hot sauce and onions.

White says both bean styles have about the same nutritional value -- 8 grams of fiber -- but thinks Panthers may benefit more than Patriots because there's an old Southern superstition decreeing a "day of good luck for every pea you eat."
