Around The Weird - Bizarre News Briefs for January 16th, 2004

Mt. Kisco, NY -- Americans are sick of colds, but some symptoms have them illin' more than others. According to a survey by Cepacol, 26 percent of cold sufferers hate the congestion most; 19 percent dislike runny noses; and 14 percent are irritated by a sore throat.

ST. JOHN, Antigua -- President George W. Bush may want to send a spaceship to Mars but the odds of it happening aren't good according to the intertops.com website. It's giving 1 to 20 odds that humans will land on Mars and 13 to 2 odds that the E.T.s will land here first.

BRISTOL, Pa. -- Here's proof the dog is man's best friend: After a Bristol, Pennsylvania, man passed away, the three-year-old mutt who was his best pal tracked him down at the funeral home. "The Intelligencer" newspaper reports little Polo was found pacing outside the mortuary, apparently looking for his recently-deceased master who lay inside.

MARTINSBURG, W. Va. -- Sometimes fire fighters light fires. At least that was the case for a 25-year-old fireman in West Virginia who was just charged with arson for burning down his mother's trailer. According to the "Herald Mail" newspaper, the man set the fire because he was fed up with his mother's messiness. Luckily, dear old mom wasn't in the trailer at the time of the fire.
