|
Washington (WFN) -- The world hasn't seen much of Olympic gold medalist Kerri Strug, but these days she's doing cartwheels over a purple wristband to raise awareness for lupus. Strug is a national sports celebrity for the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) and has been helping publicize new purple wristbands designed by two girls, 11-year-old Una-Marie Antczak, and 13-year-old Aiden Gallagher, both who have Lupus. Strug says "It is really cute to think the kids thought it wasn't fair" that there are yellow bands for cancer, pink for breast cancer and red for aids, but nothing for Lupus. So they designed the bracelets, which the LFA adopted, and last week, the children presented Strug with the first official bracelet. These days, Strug doesn't practice gymnastics. Instead, she says she's working in Washington, D.C., working in the Department of Treasury.
