West Lafayette, IN (WFN) -- Forget all the cat fights you see on shows like "Desperate Housewives" because a new study suggests that women like women more then men like men.

Researchers at Purdue University and Rutgers University say that women are four times more likely than men to say nice things about members of their own sex.

Study director Laurie Rudman attributes this tendency to the fact that most people who get along with their mother tend to have positive feelings about women in general.

The study also reveals that heterosexual men who have sex are more inclined to have good feelings towards ladies than men who rarely have intercourse.

However, psychologist Stephanie Goodwin also says socialization may explain why men are less inclined to have positive feelings toward members of their own sex.

As she puts it, "Men are socialized to avoid liking men for fear of the stigma associated with being homosexual, and that may affect their automatic responses in gender preferences."

The researchers now hope to use their findings to figure out how the sex biases affect conduct in the workplace.
