Christmas Miracle? Christmas Trees May Fight Arthritis

Turku, Finland (WFN) -- Besides looking good and smelling good in the living room during Christmastime, Christmas trees may also fight arthritis.

A new study by the University of Turku in Finland has found that the bark of the Scotch Pine tree, a popular variety of Christmas trees, contains a group of anti-inflammatory compounds.

The bark of the tree has been found to be most potent with these compounds when it has been highly purified, and other species of pine trees are expected to also have the same compounds.

According to the study's leader professor Kalevi Pihlaja, "In the future, this may mean that people with arthritis may ease their pain by eating food supplements made from Christmas trees."
