San Diego, CA (WFN) -- Sha Na Na is adding a little "Fa la la la la" to its sound with its first ever Christmas album. The long-running 50s revival band has just released "Rockin' Christmas," which is not only its first holiday CD but has the most original tunes of any of their albums, including the single "Santa's On A Diet." Drummer Jocko Marcellino says the group has long considered a holiday record and says they've written appropriate songs over the years but only now was the timing right. But even though many of the songs are new, Jocko says the attitude is straight 1950s and credits that to both the decision to record on an 8-track analog machine like the olden days but also to dress in character while in the studio. That wasn't hard for the band. As Jocko puts it, "I wear my black leather jacket almost everywhere I go and surfers have made those two-tone shirts with panels back in style again." "Rockin' Christmas" is available at www.shanana.com and some of the songs appear in "Karrol's Christmas," a TV-movie debuting tomorrow (Dec. 14) on the A&E channel.
