Michigan City, IN (WFN) -- Here's news that will grab the attention of parents with children who have attention deficit disorder: Yoga can help. Yoga practitioner Marsha Wenig is the creator of YogaKids -- specially designed yoga classes, a book and video for youngsters. She says the exercise is effective for autistic, ADD and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder kids because it gets them to use both sides of their brain, which increases their ability to focus. Wenig takes familiar yoga positions and modifies them for kids -- for example, when kids do the Downward-Facing Dog, she has them bark, and when they do the Flamingo pose, they lift one leg, flap their arms and clap. She says kids learn best when you add sound to the movement and the yoga allows the kids to regulate their own moods without the use of medications.
