Johannesburg, South Africa (WFN) -- Actor Steve Guttenberg will soon be tackling the heaviest role of his career -- playing the son of Santa Claus.

Guttenberg is starring in "Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus," a romantic comedy premiering next month on the Hallmark Channel in which he plays Santa's son, "Nick," who needs to find a wife before he can take over the family business.

He took to it like a kid to a candy cane and, in his words, "I've always wanted to do a Christmas movie but I've never been offered one before."

Guttenberg was also attracted to the role because it didn't require him to satisfy any Santa stereotypes.

Although he has high hopes, Guttenberg won't predict if it will become a holiday classic because, as he puts it, "Man makes his plans and God laughs."

"Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus," which also stars Crystal Bernard and Thomas Calabro, airs Dec. 11. In addition, Guttenberg is working on a miniseries based on the 1972 disaster flick, "The Poseidon Adventure."
