Seattle, WA (WFN) -- This holiday season may not be so merry for the recipients of gifts from Generation X'ers. That's according to Laura Dias, a shopping habits and trends researcher. She says that Gen X'ers -- people born between 1965 to 1980 -- will be just as frugal as oldsters who grew up during the Depression and World War II when it comes to giving out presents this year. The problem stems from the dot-com bust of the 1990s, which jaded the young adults as much as the Depression did their grandparents, resulting in both age groups becoming penny-pinching cheapskates. Dias says Gen X'ers gifts will be more likely to come from a discount store like Target than a swanky place like Saks Fifth Avenue. On the other hand, the best age group to get a present from is the Baby Boomer generation since, as Dias says, "they have never been through hard times really and have always spent their money freely."
