Los Angeles, CA (WFN) -- For every record that wins a Grammy, there are thousands that fall through the cracks -- but two Los Angeles-based music fans are hoping to improve the odds. Kim Cooper and David Smay are the authors of "Lost In The Grooves" (Routledge), which they describe as a guide to music that's been unjustly ignored by fans, critics, or even the musicians themselves. For instance, the book gives high marks to Pink Floyd's 1983 album, "The Final Cut," even though guitarist David Gilmour considers the songs "mere rejects" from Floyd's 1979 classic, "The Wall." Another record that gets props is "My Name Is Roosevelt Franklin," an obscure 1974 album by a "Sesame Street" character that Cooper says sounds like "Marvin Gaye for the preschool set." She hopes the book will encourage music snobs to take another listen to all the music mentioned, but admits that may not happen for some of her faves, like the 1980 kiddie record, "The World Of Strawberry Shortcake."
