Los Angeles, CA (WFN) -- Actor and bud-booster Tommy Chong has been laying low ever since his marijuana bust, but now that John Ashcroft has resigned as U.S. Attorney General his career is about to get a whole new buzz. Chong has just signed on to star in "The Marijuana-Logues," a stage show that "illustrates that cannabis culture is a thing of substance, humor and creativity." Chong has been asked several times to join the production, but he had to hold off because he feared Ashcroft's "1950s approach to policy." Chong, who spent nine months in federal prison, says he doesn't hold anything against Ashcroft. He says he feels like Robert Mitchum who did a year in prison for smoking a joint. In his words, "Nine months for a bong-hit isn't a bad thing." In fact he sees his new role as a positive for championing the cause of marijuana activists because, "It takes our cause onto a legitimate stage." Chong will appear at the New York Actors Playhouse from Dec. 7 through Dec. 19.
