Columbia, MO (WFN) -- Those who see Oliver Stone's Alexander The Great biopic when it hits the big screen Nov. 24 will get an inaccurate portrayal of a man who, in reality, wasn't that great. That's according to Ian Worthington, University of Missouri-Columbia history professor and author of a recent biography on the Macedonian king. Worthington says he fears the Colin Farrell flick will paint a picture of a "rosy Alexander" instead of the man who would kill his friends and drink too much booze. In his words, "Alexander had drinking parties that would make frat parties look like kindergarten Christmas parties." He says history has tended to magnify Alexander's good qualities and downplay his negative ones because many people during his time measured a person's worth by their military success. And Alexander had plenty, conquering a lot of territories at a rapid rate, but Worthington says, "although he certainly was a great general, he wasn't a great person."
