| 2004-11-16 - Weird News Wireless Flash News 'Some Kind Of Monster' Is Some Kind Of Therapy For Filmmaker | ||
|
New York, NY (WFN) -- Heavy metal music drives some people crazy but filming a documentary about the members of Metallica seeing a therapist was the best form of therapy for one New York filmmaker. Joe Berlinger is the director of "Some Kind Of Monster," the acclaimed documentary that shows band members dealing with each other with the help of a therapist. But the process turned out to be just as therapeutic for Berlinger, who started making the movie after directing "Blair Witch Project 2," a notorious commercial and critical flop. As he puts it, "I went from the worst year of my life to the best" and he admits he wouldn't have appreciated his current critical acclaim if he hadn't been raked over the coals for "Blair Witch 2." More importantly, he says watching Metallica work and making the film itself made him realize what was important to his soul. "Some Kind Of Monster" doesn't hit DVD until January but Berlinger discusses how the movie was made in his new book, "Metallica: This Monster Lives" (St. Martins Press).
