| 2004-11-12 - Weird News Wireless Flash News Gary Lewis Following Ray Charles And Bobby Darin To The Big Screen? | ||
|
Nashville, TN (WFN) -- Ray Charles is the subject of a hit film while Kevin Spacey's film about Bobby Darin is about to hit theaters -- and Jerry Lewis's son Gary hopes to follow in their footsteps. Lewis -- who recorded 1960s hits like "Everybody Loves A Clown" and "This Diamond Ring" -- is currently shopping a script around Hollywood about his stint in the Army during the Vietnam War. But don't expect a bombastic film like "Platoon" or "Apocalypse Now:" Lewis says his time in the military was more subdued. He was asked to perform for the troops but insisted on a desk job because, as he puts it, "I didn't want any favoritism." Lewis became an Army typist and spent his time next to a typewriter, not a rifle. In fact, he admits he's "still pretty fast with two fingers." No one has picked up his script yet but Lewis is hoping an actor like Matthew Broderick will take up the role. In the meantime, Lewis is still performing and just recorded a version of "Jingle Bell Rock" for a new CD, "Rockin' Christmas Party, Vol. 1."
