Los Angeles, CA (WFN) -- Hollywood is for sale -- the sign, that is.

Five large pieces of the original Hollywood sign, which was built in 1923 and stood until 1978, will be auctioned off on eBay starting Friday (Nov. 12).

The five metal fragments from the sign -- which was dismantled after it began to deteriorate -- measure up to three-feet by eight-feet and include parts of the letters "H", "W" and "Y."

Although the pieces are in "pretty rough shape," sign owner Dan Bliss figures many people, especially Hollywood memorabilia collectors, will want a piece because "they are one-of-a-kind" and symbolize the celebrity-infested city.

Bliss purchased the legendary sign nearly two years ago from a friend who obtained it from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

He expects the chunks of Hollywood to fetch up to $20,000 or more apiece by the time bidding ends on Nov. 22.
