New York, NY (WFN) -- The success of the Ray Charles biographical film, "Ray," is paying off for fans who want to hear his musical roots. Some early recordings of Charles, which capture the singer right when he discovered how to combine gospel and blues into his own unique sound, are finally seeing the light of day after 53 years. The four songs are titled "Walkin' And Talkin' To Myself," "Why Did You Go?," I'm Wonderin' And Wonderin,"' and "St. Pete Florida Blues" and were recorded in 1951 in Miami by Henry Stone, the talent scout who also discovered James Brown and Sam And Dave. Stone's son, Joe, says Charles was going by the name "Ray Charles Robinson" at the time and the recordings mark the moment the singer decided to stop imitating his hero, Nat "King" Cole. Although they sound raw, Stone describes the performances as "magic" and says Charles did most of them in one take. The songs will be available on iTunes for four weeks and will be available on other online music services after that.
