Dallas, TX (WFN) -- The competition will be "ruff" when pooches from half a dozen countries meet up at the Dog Agility World Championships in Irving, Texas starting Saturday (Nov. 6). The four-day contest is one of the only dog agility events in the U.S. that includes dogs from other countries such as Japan and Belgium. The event features long-distance toss and fetch, obstacle courses and obedience exercises where dog and handler teams create dance routines. Event spokesperson Heather Smith says the U.S. canines are "exceptionally trained" and stack up "very well" against the international competition. More than 700 pooches will compete in the various challenges, but the most popular one for dogs and spectators alike is the steeplechase, where the pooches jump over hurdles. In Smith's words, "People get excited for this event because it's fast-paced and the handlers really push their dogs to go all out."
