| 2004-10-27 - Weird News Wireless Flash News Christmas Film Gets 'Trimultaneous" Debut | ||
|
New York, NY -- Most movies debut in theaters, go to DVD a few months later and finally appear on TV months after that. But a new Christmas movie, "Noel," is putting a different picture on that business model. The film -- which stars Susan Sarandon, Robin Williams and Penelope Cruz -- hits theaters on Nov. 12 but will also be available through Amazon.com as a $4.99 "FlexPlay" DVD that allows a viewer to watch it as many times as possible during a 48-hour period before the disc turns black. In addition, the film will debut Nov. 28 on TNT for a one-time only showing. The "trimultaneous" debut is the first of its kind, and that thrills "Noel" director Chazz Palminteri, who says independent films need to find ways to stick out during the crowded Christmas season. Palminteri doesn't know how successful the three-way premiere will be but insiders predict that if it's successful it could point the way to how movies are released in the 21st century.
