Houston, TX -- A Palestinian hairdresser and a Jewish cowboy want to "show Yasser Arafat and Ariel Sharon how it's done" by bringing peace to the Middle East.

The two gentlemen in question are country singer/mystery writer Kinky Friedman and Farouk Shami, the founder of the Farouk Systems hair products empire.

The long-time friends have just launched a brand of olive oil which they feel is a model for the Middle East: It's a blend of oil from groves in both Jewish and Palestinian parts of the Holy Land.

All the after-tax profits of their Farouk Friedman olive oil go to a children's school program at the Oasis of Peace, a community in Israel where Arabs and Jews have chosen to raise their families together peacefully.

Both are hopeful that their oil will be a success and Friedman says, "As long as there's trouble in the Middle East, I think it will do well."

However, he jokes, "If peace breaks out, then we're dead."
