San Diego, CA (WFN) -- Mortgage brokers are all over TV reality shows like "The Apprentice" but one San Diego-based mortgage banker fears the exposure is mortgaging his industry's image.

Steve Moye thinks mortgage brokers like former "Bachelor" Bob Guiney and "Apprentice" runner-up Troy McClain give the average person the impression that mortgage brokers are "more interested in being stars than handling what for many people is the biggest transaction of their lives."

He says he would have a hard time sacrificing a chance to help a family lock in a low rate on a $500,000 home "in order to go gallivanting on some dream date or work on a singing career."

Guiney's singing aspirations are especially annoying to Moye because, as he puts it, "most mortgage brokers are better singers than Bob."

He has slightly kinder words for McClain, who is currently doing TV commercials for a Florida mortgage company. Moye says the wannabe "Apprentice" deserves credit for "at least working in the field he started in."
