Cincinnati, OH (WFN) -- Halloween can be a horror on the old pipes. Plumbers at Roto-Rooter say they expect to see a spike in calls over the two-week period leading up to Halloween thanks to pumpkin carvers clogging their drains with gourd guts. Spokesman Paul Abrams says families will often scoop out the innards of their jack-o-lantern over the kitchen sink and push the material down. But he says that turns into a real horror for plumbers because, "The slimy, stringy material dries and hardens inside pipes and disposers." Abrams estimates business will pump up seven to 10 percent, but he says that's nothing compared to the day after Thanksgiving. That's the plumbers' busiest day of the year, with an average 47 percent increase in calls because of people who put turkey bones and turkey grease down the drain.
