|
Miami, FL -- Humorist Dave Barry may be taking a sabbatical from his newspaper column but he insists his upcoming gig with his rock band is NOT a farewell tour. Beginning in January, Barry will take an indefinite leave of absence from his column, in part to play guitar with the Rock Bottom Remainders, whose members include best-selling authors like Scott Turow and Amy Tan. The Remainders begin a brief tour, "Wannapalooza," on Oct. 26 in St. Louis, but Barry insists it isn't being organized as a farewell tour because, as he puts it, "nothing we do is very organized." In fact, Barry says the band is in no danger of "tightness" or "musicality" because, "we haven't even 'hearsed,' much less rehearsed." The concert tour is going to benefit America SCORES, an after-school program that promotes literacy through soccer, but Barry refuses to allow any of the kids in the program to see the show, fearing it might violate child abuse laws.
