Around The Weird: Bizarre News Briefs

New York, NY -- Detroit is known as the "Motor City," but it's not a good place for catching 40 winks. Detroit ranks No. 1 as the "worst city for sleepers" sponsored by the Sleep Foundation because it has a high unemployment rate and a low happiness index. Meanwhile, Minneapolis is the No. 1 "best city for sleepers,"

ROME -- A man known as the "escape king" of Italy has broken out of prison for the fourth time. Reuters reports that prison guards in the city of Bergamo discovered 45-year-old Max Leitner had escaped after they opened his cell and found only dummies made of rags and cardboard lying in the man's bed. Prison officials won't say how the professional thief managed to escape but thinks he must have had outside help to make such a clean get-away.

NEW YORK -- Despite their conservative nature, Republicans are more sexually expressive than Democrats. According to a sex poll conducted by ABC's "Primetime Live," 72 percent of Republicans have worn something sexy to enhance their sex life while 62 percent of Democrats have donned sexy attire. Also, 56 percent of Republicans say they are very satisfied with their sex life while 47 percent of Democrats feel fulfilled with their sex life.

LONDON -- The British, masters of the English language, have coined the new phrase "chav" to mean a loutish type fond of tracksuits and cheap gold jewlery. The word "chav" is Britain's defining word of 2004, according to the book, "The Language Report." Author Susie Dent also believes the word "retrosexual" -- meaning a slobby guy -- will become popular as a backlash to the ever-present term "metrosexual."

CHICAGO -- The U.S. Postal Service has given its stamp of approval to a new stamp celebrating the synthesized holiday Kwanzaa. The stamp features seven colorfully cloaked figures representing the seven principles of African culture: unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith.
