The preppy clothing store tops the list of preferred shopping spots in a new study of teens' retail and spending habits by Piper Jaffray corporate research.

The youngsters also rank A&F the second-most "trendy" brand, after the Hollister label, which is also made by Abercrombie.

Other hot clothing companies include American Eagle, Pacific Sunwear and Forever 21.

Meanwhile, the Gap and Old Navy are both losing steam with teens and have fallen out of the teens' Top Ten preferred shopping spots for the first time since 2001.

However, teens say the least trendy places to shop are J.C. Penney and Kohl's.

Finally, when it comes to shoes, the top brands are Nike, Steve Madden and Adidas.
