Boston, MA (WFN) -- The 1980s prog-rock band Asia hopes to catch a buzz for its new album by doing a tour of Borders Books And Music stores. Starting tonight (Oct. 4) in Boston, Asia keyboardist Geoff Downes and vocalist John Payne will be performing at Borders locations across the U.S. to promote their newest recording, "Silent Nation." Downes figures the "Asia Minor" tour will give fans a chance to hear the band in a more intimate, stripped-down, setting and discover what hits like "Heat Of The Moment" and "Only Time Will Tell" sounded like when they were first written. There are personal reasons for Downes as well: He figures touring the book store chain will give him a chance to catch up on his reading. Tickets for each performance are free and the nationwide tour will end Oct. 17 in Santa Barbara, California. But while the bookstore tour is key to increasing the band's profile, it's not a permanent gig. Downes says the complete lineup on Asia is planning to mount a more traditional tour at the beginning of 2005.
