San Francisco, CA (WFN) -- Talk about hit and myth: A new show is trying to separate fact from fiction in urban legends that have been with us for many years. Discovery Channel's "Mythbusters" uses scientific experiments and special effects to see if certain urban legends hold water. Some of the legends being tested include finding out if ping pong balls can be used to raise a sunken ship, as was once seen in a Donald Duck comic book, or if a scuba tank explodes when it's hit with a bullet -- as it did in the final scene of "Jaws." Co-host Jamie Hyneman won't divulge the truths about the urban myths but admits he "was amazed and surprised by the results." He says many of the urban legend stories have come from viewers and that's not surprising to Hyneman who says, "A lot of people are really fascinated with this stuff." "Mythbusters' "airs Wednesday nights.
