Los Angeles, CA (WFN) -- Singer Ryan Starr isn't letting her career be "Idol" these days. The "American Idol 1" finalist is not only starring on the VH1 reality show, The Surreal Life, but she has just released her first single, a hard-rocking ditty called "My Religion," that just debuted on the Apple iTunes website. Starr is releasing the song without being signed to a record label because she wants control over her music and figures it forces companies to realize that she is a rocker and, as she puts it, "I won't conform to their image of me." Despite the spiritual-sounding title, Starr says the song has no Christian connotation and is about how a woman can become so obsessed with a guy that "he becomes her religion" and admits the tune was based on experiences with her first ex-boyfriend. Starr plans to release a whole CD early next year but, in the meantime, she is busy working with Charo, Flavor Flav and Dave Coulier on "The Surreal Life."
