Wolf, WY (WFN) -- There will be lots of horsing around in Wolf, Wyoming, this weekend: America's first "dude ranch" is celebrating its 125th anniversary. Eatons' Ranch in Wolf, Wyoming, has been saddling up city slickers since 1879 and is considered the first ever "dude ranch." In fact, ranch manager Jeff Way says the term, "dude ranch" was coined by brothers Howard, Willis and Alden, who used the term "dude" to describe how the city slickers from the East Coast looked when "all duded up in cowboy attire." Originally, most of the visitors were friends of the family visiting from the Eatons' home town, Pittsburgh, but the price of hospitality was such a drain that the brothers started charging for all the horseplay. Over the years, the Eaton Ranch has roped in luminaries like Cary Grant, Kenny Rogers and Teddy Roosevelt and Way says the place still looks much like it did when it was on the outskirts of the wild, wild west. Some things have changed. Way says the Ranch emphasizes horseback riding over cattle ranching and there are no phones or TVs in the rooms. But there are some concessions to the 21st century. Way says the ranch now has web access but "only a dial-up connection."
