Menlo Park, CA (WFN) -- Checking e-mail while in a meeting and yakking on a cell phone at lunch are on the rise in the workplace in the U.S. In a new survey by Robert Half Technology, out of 1,400 chief information officers, 67 percent agree that breaches in technology etiquette are more common now than three years ago. For instance, 88 percent feel it's inappropriate to leave on a cell phone ringer during a business meeting and 80 percent say sending instant messages is a no-no and 79 percent frown on sending e-mail. Other big blunders to avoid include overusing the "reply all" e-mail function to people that don't need a follow up e-mail, the use of high-tech shorthand like IMO -- for "in my opinion" -- and BTW -- which means "by the way" -- because it creates a language of acronyms. Finally, clicking your camera phone is a "faux pas" unless there's a business need and you have permission from your colleagues.
