Sacramento, CA (WFN) -- Producers of reality shows like "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" or "Trading Spaces" thrive on marital drama, but one humor author has some home-grown advice for folks to keep their cool on camera. Laura Jensen Walker is the author of the book, "This Old Dump" (Revell), a collection of stories, personal and those of friends, of spouses who have nearly come to blows over remodeling projects. In Walker's opinion, there are two types of remodelers: the precise type -- like her husband -- and the "hurry up and get it done so it looks pretty" type -- like her. These types should never wallpaper together. "It's not a good thing," she says. She prefers to wallpaper with a gal-pal or leaves it up to her husband. When they have to paint, she paints the middle of the wall while her husband stays out of criticizing range, then she calls him in to finish the trim while she leaves. Finally, when renovating, she recommends wives set aside a room -- besides the garage -- for their husbands. In her words, "Every guy needs a room of his own."
