Los Angeles, CA (WFN) -- NFL Network host Rich Eisen often makes funny and sarcastic remarks while he's on air, but he has realized that it can cause a lot of viewers to reach for the remote.

Eisen hosts "NFL Total Access" on the cable and satellite channel and confesses one of the biggest mistakes he made in his ESPN days was thinking that everything had to be done with a smile and a "smartass" remark.

He has learned since he doesn't have to be a Jim Carrey-type all the time because although people like to be entertained, "The No. 1 reason why people watch a sports show is to find out what's going on."

Eisen has learned from his earlier mistake and now believes he has finally "gotten it." He advises those trying to become a sportscaster to avoid other potential pitfalls like "dropping a F bomb" or "wardrobe malfunctions" while on air.
