New York, NY (WFN) -- Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year begins at sundown today (Sep. 15) and if you've ever wondered about various Hebrew tradition -- including why Jewish boys get sliced and diced below the waist -- a new book will tell you along with other eye-opening tidbits. "Jewish Holiday Fun" (Universe) tries to explain 10 Jewish traditions to Jews and clueless Gentiles in an unorthodox way. For instance, author Barbara Rushkoff explains the traditional bris ceremony -- where a male infant is circumcised -- with a illustrated health class coloring book. She says it was the only way she could describe the snipping ritual saying, "I can't just tell it, it's too gruesome." Other traditions covered by the good book include Tu Bishvat -- where trees are planted in Israel on a certain day -- and Passover, where Rushkoff features a cookbook that covers each classic Passover dish. Rushkoff says this unique kind of learning book is good because "people can learn about Jewish Holidays without it being forced down their throat." The book hits bookstores in November.
