| 2004-09-15 - Weird News Wireless Flash News Rob Lowe Is High On Lymphoma Awareness | ||
|
New York, NY -- Rob Lowe wants folks to check out his new show "Dr. Vegas," but first get checked out for lymphoma. Lowe was in New York yesterday (Sep. 14) promoting Lymphoma Awareness Day, a disease he is well aware of since his father was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 1990. Not a lot is known about the cancer of the lymphatic system and Lowe says there's no preventive measures, no self check and doctors have yet to determine if it can be hereditary. Still, he doesn't become over-obsessed with the thought of developing it. He warns others who have had the symptoms of fever, swollen glands and night sweats to get checked out by a doctor. Lowe says his father's diagnosis -- and subsequent recovery -- taught him a great lesson. He says you have to value every day "whether you're sick or not." Lowe -- who plays a doctor at a hotel in Las Vegas for the upcoming CBS TV show "Dr. Vegas" -- says if he can get the writers of the show to do it, he'd like to do a show about lymphoma. "I'll be on the case," he says.
