New York, NY -- Maria Shriver is leaving her duties as California's First Lady to interview animal trainer Roy Horn about the tiger mauling last year which left him fighting for his life.

Shriver says many journalists stalked Siegfried and Roy in hopes of getting their story but she believes she was chosen because she wouldn't exploit his tiger tragedy just for ratings.

She also thinks she was chosen because the tiger team felt she "understood them" in many different ways -- including their accents, since she's married to another showbiz icon with a heavy Teutonic accent, California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Shriver's interview with Siegfried and Roy airs on NBC September 15 and she feels it's as complete as possible, although she admits that only Roy and Montecore the tiger know what happened that night and "...one of them isn't talking."
