Muncie, IN (WFN) -- Now that kids are back in school they can look forward to the best perk: field trips. But instead of rallying all the carpool moms together, these days, kids are electronically visiting field trip destinations like the National Baseball Hall of Fame and the Space Center in Houston electronically. Such so-called E3 Electronic Field Trips are part of a nearly $1 million project at Ball State University in Indiana. Kids remain at school while a live video feed of experts at the field trip location is linked to them. When kids electronically visit the National Baseball Hall of Fame, there may be a famous ball player like Ozzie Smith standing by, and when they visit the Grand Canyon, they see the camera crew ride down by mule. Program director Mark Kornmann says "it's not a documentary, it's a live program." He says kids most enjoy that they can interact with scientists and experts live and that they do demonstrations in the classroom along with the scientists.
