Tampa, FL -- Some doctors can be a real pill to work with if a new survey is correct.

The American College of Physician Executives surveyed 1,600 physician executives in hospitals and medical facilities and found an overwhelming number of doctors have behavior problems.

The study printed in the ACPE's journal, "The Physician Executive," found many respondents reported some form of a behavior problem including: yelling, screaming, throwing surgical instruments, and berating nurses and patients with snide insults.

Yet, doctors who exhibit these types of behaviors are seldom punished and routinely treated more leniently than other staff members because of their professional stature, the study reports.

Finally, 70 percent of those surveyed experienced behavior problems with the same doctors over and over again.
