Los Angeles, CA (WFN) -- "Star Trek" fans are spacey no matter what part of the world they live in -- but that doesn't mean there aren't regional differences. According to filmmaker Roger Nygard, director of a new documentary, "Trekkies 2," the show's fans do things differently depending on which country they're from. He says French trekkies are very secretive about their sci-fi passions because, he admits, "the culture looks down on television in general." However, Germans consider being a trekkie "almost cool because it's a country of mechanical engineers." Plus, German women are more open to being trekkies than the ladies in other countries. Meanwhile, Italian trekkies are the most communal -- whole conventions stop at lunch and dinner so that Vulcans, Klingons and Romulans can dine together. Finally, Nygard says Brazil has the most "ethnically diverse" group of trekkies and women participants favor skimpy outfits like the ones worn by the alien babes who make out with Captain Kirk on the 1960s edition of the show. "Trekkies 2" just came out on DVD and Nygard is already planning a sequel focusing on trekkies in Asia and Africa.
