Syracuse, NY (WFN) -- At the Great New York State Fair tomorrow, bagel-makers hope to cream the old record for the world's largest bagel. Bakers at Bruegger's Bagels will attempt to bake a 1,000-pound ring of dough, which would break the old record of 713 pounds previously held by Lender's Bagels. To achieve their goal, Bruegger's area manager Tory Gaesser says a crane will have to lift the dough into a specially-built oven. The dough is first boiled to give it a crispy exterior. Then the water is drained from the oven and the bagel continues to bake for 10 hours. Gaesser says organizers are shooting for 1,000 pounds, but the final product could be anywhere from 900 pounds to 1,100 depending on water evaporation. The final bagel should have a six foot diameter and be 20-inches thick, and according to Gaesser, would require 500 pounds of cream cheese to cover it.
