Los Angeles, CA (WFN) -- The Iraqi prison scandal is rocking Washington -- and it could be rocking airwaves as well. That's because singer/songwriter Peter Case has just released a new tune, "Wake Up Call," inspired by the now-infamous picture of Army reservist Lynddie England smoking a cigar and pointing to a nearly naked Iraqi prisoner. Case -- who wrote the 1980s-era new wave classic, "A Million Miles Away" for The Plimsouls -- says he was shocked by the photo but admits he didn't start out to write a song about the scandal. In his words, "When I started writing it, I didn't know what it was about." However, he got the wake up call about the subject matter towards the end when he wrote the lines, "You're on the carpet with your mighty Jinn/ A big cigar and a cheesecake grin." Case doesn't know how his "radical acoustic" song will go over with the general public but feels good about the song because, as he puts it, "expression is always good." "Wake Up Call" is the lead song on Case's latest album, "Who's Gonna Go Your Crooked Mile," a compilation album that will be released September 14.
